Founded in 2017 in San Francisco, Skylight Calendar emerged to fill an unmet need for centralized, efficient family organization as schedules became increasingly complex. Our commitment to thoughtful design and genuine customer service has allowed us to help thousands of families reduce their coordination headaches, lower stress, and spend more quality time together.
Our Story
Skylight Calendar was born out of Co-Founder Jack Chen’s own family struggles to juggle two working parents, three kids with jam-packed schedules, and running an orderly household. As an engineer, Jack conceived with his wife Amanda the idea for an intuitive smart calendar to solve the challenges he experienced firsthand.
From this spark of inspiration came years of development iterating on the concept and refining the technology. Jack built prototypes in his garage, learning through trial-and-error how to create the seamless user experience families needed. Amanda rigorously tested each version to ensure it matched real-life demands.
When they finalized the initial Skylight Calendar design, 50 beta units were manufactured and distributed to local families for real-world testing and feedback. The responses were overwhelmingly positive, confirming the value of Skylight’s vision.
With proof of concept established, Jack and Amanda officially founded Skylight Calendar in 2017 headquartered in San Francisco. They rapidly expanded engineering and design teams to accelerate bringing the product to market.
In 2018, the first commercial Skylight Calendar model launched to an eager customer base ready to embrace the simplicity it provided. Positive reviews and recommendations fueled Skylight’s rapid growth, necessitating scaling up manufacturing and operations.
Over the next few years, Skylight introduced additional screen sizes, offerings like chore management features, and the Skylight mobile app to extend convenience. Continuous software enhancements made the platform even more powerful.

Jack Chen – Founder and CEO
Jack’s entrepreneurial vision brought Skylight Calendar’s family-centered technology to life. As CEO, he leads the company to make intelligent home solutions accessible. Under Jack’s guidance, Skylight has helped over 100,000 families reduce scheduling headaches and enjoy quality time.
Prior to launching Skylight Calendar, Jack forged an impressive software engineering career. He served as CTO at SmartRelease Technologies, led development at IntelliCalendar, and cut his teeth as a programmer at Oracle.
Jack channels his lifelong passion for coding into designing products that solve real customer problems. At Skylight, he’s equally devoted to cultivating a thriving people-first culture.
Outside of work, you can find Jack enjoying nature hikes, tinkering with hobby electronics, and spending time with his wife Amanda and their three kids – the inspiration behind Skylight.
Amanda Chen – Founder and Chief of Product
Amanda’s intuition around families’ needs and design thinking sparked Skylight Calendar’s original concept. As Chief of Product, she oversees the product team’s planning, development, launch, and improvements of all offerings.
Amanda previously led roles across user research, customer experience, and project management at Apple, Virgin Pulse, and startups. She leverages these diverse insights to inform product direction and innovation.
From early focus groups to final user testing, Amanda stays hands-on. She provides guidance at every stage to create products that truly enhance lives. Her commitment to understanding customers is woven into Skylight’s DNA.
When not collaborating with her product and engineering teams, Amanda cherishes spending free time with Jack and their children who keep her grounded.
Rebecca Thompson – Chief Revenue Officer
As Chief Revenue Officer, Rebecca spearheads strategy and execution across sales, partnerships, and go-to-market functions essential for driving Skylight’s growth.
Rebecca is a seasoned technology revenue leader bringing over 15 years of expertise to her role. She previously led sales teams at SmartRelease Technologies, Sana Commerce, and RocketBase CRM during their rapid scale-ups.
Rebecca attracts top sales talent and motivates her team to build trusted relationships that boost customer acquisition and loyalty. She implements data-driven systems leveraging the latest tools to make sales operations efficient and insightful.
Rebecca believes work should energize you. Outside the office, she stays active with competitive tennis, leading a Girl Scout troop with her twin daughters, and seeking new culinary experiences.
